Recap from Day Two

First of all, be it known that we have a SHOW THIS FRIDAY, JANUARY 27th at The Hungry Tiger in Manchester.  SHOW START PROMPTLY AT 8 PM!  Full show details can be found here at the Facebook event page.

So this is the recording blog, so let’s talk recording.  We woke up bright and early this past Saturday to a pretty decent snow storm.  The ride up to the studio was dicey but not impossible, I put a couple pictures of that up on our Facebook and Twitter feeds if you want to check those out.

Work in the studio went extremely well.  We completed recording the rest of the basic tracks for the album, and we all feel really good about the shell of our album that is the basic tracks.  I was privileged to play an actual vintage Wurlitzer electric piano on the recording of a couple songs so far.  And even more fun, I got to record on a beautiful Yamaha C3 grand piano that is in the studio!  I really need to get one of those!  Pictures of both should be forthcoming.  We also captured some pretty good footage that we can hopefully use towards the end of the project to create some great videos.

Anyway, now that the basic tracking is completed, the fun can really begin!  When we go back into the studio we will be focusing on the nitty gritty of the details, vocals, and lots of other good things.  We are really excited about the tools we have at our disposal, i.e. a state of the art studio with a real Hammond B3 organ, the extreme knowledge of the studio staff, and of course the creativity and skill of everyone in the band!

Overall, the process has been hard work and fairly demanding but we are all very happy with the results so far.  Not to mention it has been lots of fun.  When you come out to the show on Friday, we can definitely talk to you more about anything and everything band, recording, or music related.  We also appreciate any support we can get!  As always, if you have any questions or comments they can be sent directly to me at bob@rotaryband.com.

Welcome to the Rotary Blog: First Recording entry

So this is my first Rotary blog entry! I’m not really sure how to write this blog, so any suggestions or questions regarding the process are VERY welcome! You can email me directly at bob@rotaryband.com with any feedback…

Anyway we are very excited to tell you what we’ve been up to for the past few months that we’ve been MIA from the gigging scene! We have been hard at work preparing the songs for our new album for the recording process. That entailed picking apart our songs and really getting them exactly right, lots of these songs we’ve been playing out live for awhile, so adapting them to work on a studio album has been a bit of work.

This past Saturday we finally began the recording process! The studio is awesome and is exactly what we were looking for. Our search was long and hard to find a studio that met our needs. We ended up in an awesome studio in West Springfield, MA called Rotary Records! Yes that is actually the name of the studio! Anyway this place is awesome because it is in this huge old converted church has has a HUGE live area. Each of us can be in our own sound proof room to record all of the basic tracks in a live setting. There should be some pics of the first day right here on our blog!

On our first day of recording we successfully got through the basic tracks for 6 of the songs on our album! Basic tracking for those of you unfamiliar means that we recorded the shell of each song in a live fashion, that is the drums, guitars, and bass have all been recorded live to get the basic song structure committed to tape. We will head back to the studio this coming Saturday and with fingers crossed, get 6 more basic tracks done.
Also, this week, we are hoping to get a bit of video footage of the session recorded so that we can make some sweet videos of the sessions and show you all first hand what we are doing and how much fun we are having doing it. We are just a bit worried about the snow in the forecast, but I think that we will get ourselves up to the studio no matter what happens.

Ok, well this project is still in the early stages of the recording process and I am still trying to figure out what exactly to tell you about the process and what you want to know about. So like I said earlier, send me an email if you have any questions or feedback and I’d love to address them in my next entry!
Keep rocking!
